With the purpose of bringing hope to children in Latin America and the Caribbean, Fundahigado America takes its work to Dominican Republic, where an agreement with HGPS was signed in order to begin the program of pediatric liver transplantation in that medical center.
Fundahigado America is known for being a pioneer in liver transplants for children and adults in Venezuela, where the first program was established. Nowadays, the foundation is now trying to replicate these efforts all over the continent, bringing this life option to children in the region.
Mercedes Maritinez, M.D and member of the Boards of Directors of Fundahigado America along with the President of HGPS Julio Amado Castaños Guzmán were present in order to sign the agreement.
The agreement between Fundahigado America and Hospital General de la Plaza de la Salud seeks to train medical personnel using resources in Dominican Republic. It pursues saving children’s lives through this successful surgery.
FHA and HGPS
Fundahigado America was founded in 2011, with the aim of promoting pediatric liver transplantation in Latin America. The objectives behind the Foundation are charitable and scientific. They want to train health professionals in underserved areas of America to help provide medical treatment for liver diseases, including liver transplantation.
The foundation also offers advice on identifying suitable hospitals to implement a complex program such as liver transplantation and at the same time, it guides the process of forming multidisciplinary teams to care for, evaluate and monitor patients, to guarantee the success of this medical therapy.
Hospital General de la Plaza de la Salud (HGPS) is a medical-assistance center of the highest scientific level located in the Dominican Republic. Features such as the multidisciplinary team that works there, along with its equipment and facilities, endorse the quality of patient care and make it a national reference health center with international scope and visibility.
