Liver cysts are a common condition that affects many people around the world. In this article, we are going to talk about what liver cysts are, why they come out, whether they can be cancerous and what is a simple liver cyst.

What is a liver cyst?

A liver cyst is a fluid-filled sac that forms in the liver. Usually, liver cysts are benign and do not cause symptoms. However, in rare cases, cysts can be cancerous and need treatment.

These cysts have no apparent cause, but it is believed that they may be the result of malformations present at birth. In general, and although they are common, cysts in the liver can be considered as rare, because of them appearing in only 5% of the population worldwide.

Why do cysts develop in the liver?

Liver cysts can be caused by a variety of factors, such as parasitic diseases, liver injury, congenital malformations and polycystic liver disease. They can also be hereditary.

The parasite that can produce cysts in the liver is called Echinococcus, which is found in sheep throughout the world. The cysts, as a rule, are not visible until later in a person’s life, as they tend to develop slowly.

Can liver cysts be cancerous?

On rare occasions, liver cysts can be cancerous. Therefore, it is important that if you experience pain in the abdomen, swelling or unexplained weight loss, you consult a physician.

Simple liver cyst is the most common type of cyst in the liver. These cysts are benign and usually cause no symptoms. They are often discovered accidentally during a medical examination or imaging test.

In conclusion, liver cysts are a common and mostly inoffensive condition. However, it is important to be aware of any symptoms they may cause and seek medical attention if you experience abdominal pain, bloating or unexplained weight loss. If you have a family history of liver cysts, it is important to inform your doctor so they can perform regular testing and monitoring.
